Enrichment groups for (exceptionally & profoundly) gifted children

What is it?

Your child is gifted, now what? You are looking for counselling, enrichment for your child but you are stuck. The language barrier and the age gap (“your child is too young for this group”) are a problem.

Gifted people have a different way of thinking, a different way of feeling, a different way of being. For that reason, you need a different approach, a different guidance. Proper knowledge of giftedness is necessary to fully comprehend what these children really need, which is more than just cognitive input.

Talent University offers enrichment classes during the day and in the evening. The main language is English, but communication in French is an option as well.

IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO OFFER A QUALITATIVE CURRICULUM,
TALENT UNIVERSITY CO-OPERATES WITH COMPANIES AND UNIVERSITIES.
THE FULL LIST OF CURRENT CO-OPERATIONS CAN BE VIEWED HERE.

Themes (note that not all themes will be covered)

Morse code

Why did people use secret codes? We will get to work with secret codes, our memory and our own creativity. Who will break  and make the best codes?

Dystopia and utopia?

How to run your own country? Together we will discover what a country needs (or what exactly it doesn’t need). We will investigate film  fragments, real cases and research our own morale: are we all pacifists until the bitter ending, or is there a tiny dictator hidden inside all of us? We will build our own country, its people and habits and we simulate its course of events.

  • Debate and argue
  • Responsibility: rights and responsibilities in a country
  • Learning to persist
  • Collaboration
  • Self-knowledge

Games

Wat is a game and why do we play it? How do you play without toys and how would the world look like without toys?

After investigating different kind of games, we will make our own game. During this, we will work on skills such as persistence, strategic thinking, goal-oriented working learning to see failure as learning experiences (learning to use feedback from other to improve your own game).

Cultural sciences

Planet earth: what is it, and why is it?

What is a country, what is a planet? How do you explain that to, for example, an alien? Do you hand over a file about the size of Slovenia, number of lakes in Spain, the  number of inhabitants in China, … or would you rather let them taste Italian pizza? We will be looking in astonishment at a culture, language, society, unity and diversity.

Language: Swedish for beginners

Introduction to the Swedish language. We will use this language to acquire some study techniques. They will learn what it feels like to communicate with hands and feet. How well do you have to know a language before you have the guts to speak it?

We will return to the basics of communication: what do you need before you can say you are communicating?

Meanwhile, we will try and figure out whether there is a link between language and culture. What do you know about Sweden: Ikea meatballs, Pippi Longstocking, Abba, …?

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do sessions take place?

Talent University rents a space in Overijse for these enrichment classes: Witherendreef 1, Overijse

Is this a school?

This is not a school, but a small-group traject in which we aim for a longterm growth on those aspects that exceptionally and profoundly gifted children often find difficulty dealing with. The main goal is the well-being: cognitively, socially, emotionally. Children who feel well, will automatically want to study and have new experiences, without external pressure.

I have more questions, where can I ask them?

You can ask all your questions by mailing at info@talentvol.be, calling +32 472 25 60 05 or make an appointment in Bornem stating “Talent University’. This entitles you to a free of charge intake session of half an hour.
